Motorcyclist airlifted to Harborview after colliding with truck on Marvin Road in Lacey
A 20-year-old Lacey resident was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after colliding with a Toyota Tundra on Monday on Marvin Road in Lacey.
It’s the second time an accident involving a motorcycle has occurred on the 100 block of Marvin Road, near Martin Way, in just over a week. The first one was fatal.
On Monday, Lacey Police Sgt. Jeremy Knight said the motorcyclist made a left turn from Les Schwab Tire toward southbound Marvin Road at about 12:30 p.m. At the same time, the driver of the pickup truck, a 31-year-old Olympia resident, turned left from The Wave Car Wash toward northbound Marvin Road. The two collided in the middle turn lane.
Knight said the motorcyclist was driving a Harley-Davidson. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured. Knight said there were no signs of impairment, and the investigation has been wrapped up.
In the previous crash, a 30-year-old Olympia man died after a motorcycle-versus-truck collision on April 26. The incident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. and the Olympia man was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was hit by a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by a 79-year-old Yelm man, Knight said.
Knight said there was still paint visible on the road from the previous accident investigation, and the department’s Major Accident Investigation Team had to switch colors to differentiate the two. He said it was eerie how similar the two accidents were.
The roadway was closed but reopened by 3 p.m. Monday.
