Update: Motorcyclist badly hurt in crash that closed Standiford at McHenry in Modesto

9 p.m. update: Standiford Avenue at McHenry Avenue opened sometime in the 8 p.m. hour, several hours after a crash critically injured a man riding a motorcycle.

Just after 3 p.m., a vehicle pulling out of the parking lot at 200 Standiford Ave. to turn left collided with the westbound motorcyclist, according to the Modesto Police Department.

The rider was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was stable Monday night.

The Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit closed the westbound lanes of Standiford Ave for several hours to investigate the crash.

“At this time, there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash,” a police news release said.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Officer Johnson at johnsonk@modestopd.com or, to remain anonymous, call Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636

Original story: Modesto police are investigating a major-injury collision that happened shortly after 3 p.m. Monday and involved a motorcycle and another vehicle at the intersection of McHenry and Standiford avenues.

The driver was in critical but stable condition late Monday afternoon, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear told The Bee. A watch commander said that at about 7 p.m., Standiford remained closed to westbound traffic at the intersection.

There was no estimate of when it would reopen, and the watch commander didn’t know where Standiford was closed at the other end of the crash scene.
