Motorcyclist dies after crash in rural Freeport

FREEPORT — A motorcyclist died Monday night after crashing in the area of West Stephenson and Van Brocklin roads.

Stephenson County Sheriff deputies were called about 7:10 p.m. and found the motorcyclist about a half mile west of Van Brocklin Road.

The motorcyclist was transferred by ambulance to Freeport Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.

The motorcyclist's name is being withheld pending notification of family, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The auto fatality was the second in as many days.

About 12:45 a.m. Sunday, deputies were called to a single-vehicle rollover crash in the area of U.S. 20 and Rink Road where they found a vehicle on its roof.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

The driver's passenger also was taken to Freeport Memorial Hospital.

The name of the driver and the name and condition of the passenger have not been released.
