22-year-old motorcyclist dies early Sunday Route 1 crash near Magnolia

A 22-year-old man from Marysville, Pennsylvania was killed early Sunday when his motorcycle hit the back of an SUV on Route 1, Delaware State Police said. The man has been identified as Kohl Reed.

Police said the motorcyclist was northbound on Route 1, south of Trap Shooters Road, about 1:30 a.m. when a GMC SUV changed lanes.

Reed, who police said was traveling at a high rate of speed behind the GMC, came up to the vehicle and struck the rear bumper of the SUV.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The SUV driver, a 25-year-old woman, was properly restrained and not injured during the collision.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
