Motorcyclist dies following apparent collision with bear

State police are investigating a fatal accident that they believe involved a bear.

The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. Saturday night, According to state police.

State police said that Thomas Kovalik was head south on Route 222 on a 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a live bear in the road, causing him to lose control and be ejected.

Kovalik, 66, of Plymouth, was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where he was pronounced dead, state police said.

State police are continuing to investigate.
