Motorcyclist dies from injuries in Frenchtown Township crash

A motorcyclist died early Sunday from injuries sustained in a crash.

The crash happened at 12:16 a.m. on Pointe Aux Peaux Road, east of North Dixie Highway, in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a news release.

The preliminary investigation showed Joseph W. Hoag Sr., 34, of Toledo was operating a motorcycle westbound on Pointe Aux Peaux Road, the news release said. While in motion, Hoag failed to navigate a curve in the road and lost control of his motorcycle. Hoag then traveled left of center, leaving the roadway to the south, striking a tree and utility pole where his motorcycle came to rest. Hoag was separated from his motorcycle and found lying on the ground, next to his motorcycle.

At the time of the crash, Hoag was not wearing a helmet, the release said. Speed and alcohol are factors in the crash.

Monroe Community Ambulance transported Hoag to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Members of the Frenchtown Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at thescene.

The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Brian Quinn and deputy sheriffs Jon Cregar and AlecPreadmore of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7557.
