Motorcyclist fatally injured in Richmond crash

RICHMOND, Ind. — An Ohio man was fatally injured this week when his motorcycle collided with a minivan at a Richmond intersection.

Melvin Cox, 78, of Ansonia, was taken to Reid Hospital following the collision, which was reported shortly before noon Monday at Ind. 121 and Potterfield Road.

He was later flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he died.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, a minivan driven by James Boring, 80 — of Orient, Ohio, in Pickaway County about 100 miles east of Richmond — was westbound and attempting to make a U-turn when it struck Cox's westbound motorcycle.

Boring and passengers in his vehicle were not injured. According to a news release, the fatality remains under investigation.

In addition to deputies, Richmond firefighters and police also responded to the scene.
