Motorcyclist fleeing police killed after wreck on Main Street in Lexington

A 24-year-old man driving a motorcycle died on Sunday in Lexington after he crashed into another vehicle while fleeing police.

According to information provided by the Lexington Police Department, at approximately 11:30 a.m. an officer noticed a motorcyclist traveling North on South Main Street near Fourth Avenue at a high rate of speed.

At that time, the officer engaged their blue lights and began to initiate a traffic stop but before they could pursue the driver he crashed into another vehicle.

According to law enforcement, the motorcyclist failed to stop for a red light at Second Avenue and struck a passenger vehicle while crossing the intersection. The driver of the motorcyclist was transported by Davidson County EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

The passenger vehicle that was struck sustained serious damage, but none of the occupants were injured.
