UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in Aiken County wreck identified

Jun. 12—A motorcyclist died Saturday evening in a wreck in Beech Island, at Atomic Road (S.C. Highway 125) and Augusta Road (S.C. Highway 421), according to a report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Ronald M. Maxey, 63, of Waynesboro, Ga. He was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries, according to a release from the Aiken County Coroner's office.

The wreck occurred at about 8:10 p.m. Also involved was a 2015 Kia Soul. The car's driver was uninjured, the report indicated.

The motorcycle was reportedly southbound on Augusta Road and merging to the right when Maxey was ejected and the motorcycle continued across the lanes of travel, striking the car.

The collision is under investigation, according to Master Trooper David Jones, with the highway patrol and the coroner's office.
