A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon in Hillsborough County after the driver of a car made a left turn in front of him, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. at U.S. 41 at Miller Mac Road in Apollo Beach.

Troopers said the motorcyclist, a 44-year-old man from Ruskin, was driving south on U.S. 41 when a northbound driver made the turn in front of him. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, hit the car. He died at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old woman from Ruskin, and her passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Miami, suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The highway patrol didn’t release the names of the people involved because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
