Motorcyclist popping wheelie killed Monday morning in crash on NW 39th Ave. in Gainesville

A 21-year-old man was killed following a motorcycle crash Monday morning in Gainesville, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Here's what we know:

At Northwest 39th Avenue and Northwest 97th Boulevard in Gainesville, just west of the Interstate 75 interchange.

Here's how the crash happened

According to the report, the 21-year-old man was riding a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle east on Northwest 39th Avenue. As he was popping a wheelie on the motorcycle, a large truck being driven by a 61-year-old Jacksonville man was turning left onto Northwest 97th Boulevard.

The front of the motorcycle struck the right rear of the truck. The motorcyclist came to rest in the eastbound lanes of 39th Avenue, where he was pronounced dead.

The roadway was closed for several hours while troopers completed their investigation. Traffic was diverted onto Northwest 98th Street.
