Motorcyclist killed in North Hampton crash identified

NORTH HAMPTON — Police have identified 58-year-old David Penney, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, as the motorcyclist who was killed in the accident at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Woodland Road on Saturday, June 25.

According to the press release issued by the New Hampshire State Police, Penney died after the 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding was struck by the 2015 BMW driven by Jennifer McCoy, 38, of Boston. State police allege at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, McCoy entered the Atlantic Ave. and Woodland Road intersection, causing a collision.

Penney was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McCoy and a juvenile, who was with her in the vehicle, were not injured.

McCoy was subsequently charged with driving under the Influence and scheduled for arraignment at Rockingham Superior Court.

State police, North Hampton police and fire personnel responded to the accident. At the request of North Hampton police, the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the lead of the investigation.

Penney is survived by his wife Celeste and son David, 17.

According to his obituary, Penney spent 11 years mentoring his son and many other scouts with Boy Scout Troop No. 49 of Tewksbury as leader and Scoutmaster. He was also a member and president of Tewksbury-Wilmington Sons of Italy, and of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070.

Penney enjoyed riding his Harley, spending time at Sunrise Lake in Middleton, and listening to the Beatles, according to his obituary.
