A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon in north Springfield after colliding with a small SUV, the city's 17th deadly motor vehicle crash of the year.
Springfield Police said a Nissan Rogue was traveling westbound on Kearney Street and attempted to head south on Grant Avenue before colliding with a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle at the intersection. The crash is under investigation.
The man riding the motorcycle − Ryan Brinkman, 35, of Springfield−succumbed his injuries at a local hospital. Both occupants of the Nissan were treated for minor injuries.
SPD said that Brinkman was wearing a helmet.
This was Springfield's third fatal crash in the past 10 days. On Saturday afternoon, a man, woman and her unborn child — later identified as Justin Richards and Trisha Gulick — were killed after their vehicle collided with a truck at the intersection of Sunshine and McCurry St.
