A motorcyclist was killed and passenger injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Mechanicsburg Road in Wayne Township, Wayne County.

Joshua Perrera, 32, of Rittman, was declared dead at the scene.

Perrera failed to negotiate a curve while going north on Mechanicsburg Road on his Aprilia motorcycle and went off the west side of the roadway, hit a ditch and overturned, the Wooster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened about 4:10 p.m., south of Smithville Western Road, the highway patrol said. Both Perrera and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

No helmets worn

The passenger, Lauran Ann Hicks, 23, of Dalton, was seriously injured and taken by medical helicopter to Akron City Hospital.

The highway patrol said neither Perrera nor Hicks wore helmets. The highway patrol said it continues to investigate and that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
