Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in Brooklyn crash: police

A 21-year-old motorcyclist died and his passenger was hospitalized following a Brooklyn crash early Saturday, police said.

It’s the third time in a week a motorcyclist has died on the city’s roadways, cops said.

Victim Nicholas Sanchez was driving his motorcycle south on Fourth Ave. in Sunset Park about 2:45 a.m. when he slammed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading east on 52nd St., cops said.

Sanchez’s 22-year-old friend was seated behind him during the crash and they were both thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

EMS rushed both men to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where Sanchez died. His passenger suffered minor injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The 44-year-old man driving the Jeep wasn’t injured and remained at the scene. No charges were immediately filed as police continue with their investigation.

Sanchez lived in Williamsburg, about 6 miles from where the fatal crash occurred, cops said.

At 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, an unidentified man in his 20s was riding a Suzuki motorcycle on the Major Deegan Expressway near Exit 2 in the Bronx when he slammed into a barrier off the far right lane and flew off the elevated highway on to the ground below.

Cops were trying to identify the victim last week.

On May 27, a 22-year-old motorcyclist was thrown from his bike on the eastbound Long Island Expressway near Woodhaven Blvd. in Elmhurst, Queens, and run over by a passing truck, police said. He died at the scene.

As of Friday, 12 motorcyclists have died in crashes throughout the five boroughs — a 33% jump over the nine who died in crashes by this time last year, police said.
