Motorcyclist killed in Warwick crash early Saturday

WARWICK — A 31-year-old motorcycle rider was killed early Saturday when he struck two curbs near the intersection of Oakland Beach and Warwick avenues, lost control, ran into a tree and was thrown from the bike near Stop & Shop.

Police officers who arrived at the scene just after 3:30 a.m. began CPR on the man, who was unconscious and not breathing, until emergency medical crews arrived and took him to Rhode Island Hospital.

Warwick police Capt. Robert Hart confirmed Saturday afternoon that the motorcycle operator had died, but said identification was being withheld until the family is notified.

The incident remains under investigation, Hart said, but the police believe that a second motorcycle was in the area at the time and that speed was "a significant factor" in the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police traffic unit at (401) 468-4200.
