Motorcyclist trying to avoid truck killed in crash near Mill Creek Tuesday night

A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed near Mill Creek after colliding with a pickup truck he was initially trying to avoid, according to Delaware State Police.

The motorcyclist, a man from Cochranville, Pennsylvania, died at the scene. His identification is pending family notification, police said.

The motorcyclist was traveling south on Newport Gap Pike (Route 41) about 9:15 p.m. while a 2014 Ford F250 was traveling in the opposite direction. The Ford then turned left to enter a driveway.

As the pickup turned, police said, it got in the direct path of the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision but struck the back of the Ford.

As a result of this collision, police said the motorcyclist and his 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveled into a northbound lane of Newport Gap Pike where a 2015 Subaru Outback hit the motorcycle, causing it to be lodged underneath it.

No other injuries were reported and police said the Ford driver, a 58-year-old man from the Wilmington area, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol.
