Motorist dies in I-85 crash in Thomasville

Mar. 9—DAVIDSON COUNTY — A 33-year-old man from Massachusetts was killed Sunday night after state troopers said his SUV speeding more than 100 mph left the roadway and struck a concrete bridge overpass on Interstate 85 near Thomasville.

Jonathan Orander, 33, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was traveling north at a high speed just before 7:25 p.m when the 2015 Chevrolet SUV he was driving ran off the left shoulder of the expressway and hit the underpass bridge pier, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said. The SUV overturned several times before it came to a rest upright facing north on the left shoulder, troopers said.

Orander wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
