Motorist dies after vehicle strikes tree on Route 18 in Marlboro, police say

MARLBORO - A motorist died Friday morning after his car left the roadway and struck a tree on Route 18, Marlboro Township Police Capt. Stephen Levy said.

Officers responded to multiple reports of a crash about 6:30 a.m. and found the 2008 Honda Accord off the highway between Route 520 and Route 79, police said.

The driver, a male in his 60s, was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.

The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of the next of kin.

Southbound lanes on the highway were shut at the Route 520 and Tenant Road ramps until about 10 a.m., police said.

There are no known witnesses to the crash, Levy said.
