A guard shot a motorist after an incident Monday morning at an entrance to Fort Riley, causing injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, the fort's public affairs office said.

"The initial report states that a suspect drove through the gate, was stopped by the automatic vehicle barrier, and after the suspect exited the vehicle, the situation escalated, ultimately leading to the suspect being shot by a guard," that office said in a news release.

Authorities weren't making public the name, age or gender of the driver, whom they said was found to have been wounded after Fort Riley Military Police were called about 6:50 a.m. to the scene of the incident at Trooper Gate.

The driver was receiving medical attention for injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the public affairs office said.

The Army Criminal Investigation Division and Fort Riley Military Police were investigating, it said.

No further information was being made public.
