Mott named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Nov. 21—Coming off a three-sack performance in Kansas State's 48-31 win at West Virginia on Saturday, junior defensive end Brendan Mott was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The honor is Mott's first and the 10th weekly award won by the Wildcats, which is the most for a season in school history.

Mott's three sacks were a career high and tied the fourth most in a game in school history and the 12th most in the nation so far this season.

Mott is the third K-State player to have three sacks in a game this season (Felix Anudike Uzomah and Khalid Duke each had three versus Texas Tech). The Wildcats are one of just two teams (San Jose State) to have three players with three-sack games this season

An Iowa City, Iowa native, Mott walked on to K-State prior to the 2019 season and redshirted. He saw one game as a redshirt freshman versus Kansas in 2020 and then played in the Wildcats' Texas Bowl victory at the end of the 2021 season.

After adding 40 pounds since high school, Mott has become a regular on the Wildcat defensive line, playing in all 11 games this season, registering 29 tackles (19 solo) and six sacks for 46 yards so far this season.

He also recovered a fumble in the Wildcats' win over Oklahoma State.
