Moultrie-Colquitt County Library becomes FamilySearch Affiliate Library

Oct. 11—MOULTRIE — If you want to be part of the popular ancestry search trend, you may not need to look any further than Colquitt County's local library system. The Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System is now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, which means it has access to more genealogy resources to help you make more family discoveries.

Irene Godwin, the library's genealogy research specialist, said she is excited to share this resource with the community. "This is a valuable tool for accessing records that may lead to finding and proving family connections," she said. "It has helped me do that very thing."

There are only a few hundred affiliate libraries in the country. Affiliate libraries have access to FamilySearch's digital genealogical collections that are otherwise accessible only through a FamilySearch center, the MCCLS said in a press release. In both the Moultrie and Doerun libraries, patrons have access to over 2 billion digitized records, including approximately 400 million images that are currently not available to the public outside of an affiliate library or a FamilySearch center.

Researchers who come into the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library will have the added advantage of experienced staff members to help in their research, the library said. The genealogy library, located in the south wing of the Moultrie Library, is open Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Library director Kevin Ellis said, "The Odom Library has always had an amazing selection of resources for anyone wanting to look into their family history. Now that we are a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, it may just be the perfect time to come see us and dive back into your research."
