A Mount Dora Councilman Honored with 2023 Hero Award

Mount Dora At-Large City Councilmember Doug Bryant was honored recently with the Home Rule Hero award during the Florida Legislative Session.

The two-time elected At Large City Councilmember was presented the award by The Florida League of Cities.

Home Rule Heroes are some of our biggest advocates for protecting local decision-making. They are League members who stand out for their high level of participation, knowledge, and effectiveness.

“The award honors those for their hard work and advocacy efforts. “It has been said that the best form of government is that which is closest to the people,” said Councilmember Bryant.

Prior to serving on the council, Bryant was on the Mount Dora Planning and Zoning Commission. He also was a board member At-Large for the Lake County Water Authority Board.

“The League and its legislative team appreciate the individual advocacy efforts undertaken by municipal officials throughout the state,” said Florida League of Cities Chief of Legislative Affairs Casey Cook.
