Mount Pleasant girls capture Brookhart-Crew Relays track title at Fairfield

Mount Pleasant High School won six events and coasted to the girls team championship in the Brookhart-Crew Invitational track and field meet at Fairfield Monday night.

The Panthers racked up 183 points to easily outdistance runner-up Davis County's 142. Host Fairfield was third with 89 points and was followed by Washington (60), West Burlington-Notre Dame (53) and Fort Madison (51).

Mount Pleasant won five individual events and one relay.

Abby Blint won the 1,500-meter run in 5:16.79 and Kenna Lamm won the 100-meter hurdles ion 16.35 seconds. The Panthers won three of the four field events — Josie Gilmore in high jump (5-0), Elsie Lange in long jump (15-11) and Jadan Brumbaugh in shot put with a school-record toss of 49-9.

Mount Pleasant's Rellana Van Deuren, Bailey Jalas, Tristian Shull and Blint won the 1,600-meter medley relay in 4:38.66.

West Burlington-Notre Dame won two individual events and a relay. Maisey Belger won the discus with a toss of 125 feet, four inches. Hannah Fruehling won the 3,000 meters in 12:19.23.

The Falcon quartet of McKenna Marlow, Ava Parkins, Amiya Davis and Jenna Bentz won the 800-meter medley relay in 1:52.68.

Fort Madison's Katie Dennis won the 800-meter run in 2:38.43.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

PANTHERS TAKE 2ND: Mount Pleasant won four events and finished second in the six-team Brookhart-Crew Invitational at Fairfield.

Washington won the team title with 147 points and was followed by Mount Pleasant (120), Fairfield (113), Fort Madison (73), West Burlington-Notre Dame (66) and Davis County (62).

Mount Pleasant's Will Davidson won three events — the 110-meter hurdles in 15.32, the 400-meter hurdles in 56.04 and the long jump at 20 feet even.

The Panther team of Dylon Hagans, Mason Sloat, Gabe Feldmann and Isaiah Albright won the 4x400 relay in 3:39.81.

WB-ND and Fort Madison won two events each.

WB-ND's Anthony Moad won the 1,600 run in 5:02.29. The Falcon 4x100 relay team of Jace Figuereo, Grant Boal, Owen Gulick and Jack Riley won in 43.79 seconds.

Fort Madison's Tate Johnson won the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds and John Cottrerll won the 3,200-meter run in 10:56.89.

BURLINGTON 8, MOUNT PLEASANT 1: The Grayhounds remained undefeated through eight dual meets with a Southeast Conference win at Mount Pleasant's East Lake Park.

PREP SOFTBALL

WEST CENTRAL 10, WEST HANCOCK 0: Shelby Bowman and Bailey Ryan both went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Heat past West Hancock at Stronghurst, Illinois.

Bowman doubled three times, scored twice and drove in three runs. Ryan had one double, scored twice and drove in a run. Allie Strack also doubled for West Central. Addie Seitz was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits and a walk in the six-inning shutout. She struck out 11 Titans.

Alayna Von Kiedrowski had both of West Hancock's hits, a single and a double.

MERCER COUNTY 10, PND 0: Gabriella McPeek and Ellie Smock each had two hits to lead the Golden Eagles past Peoria Notre Dame at Aledo, Illinois.

McPeek tripled, drove in a run and was the winning pitcher. She gave up four hits and a walk while striking out eight in five innings. Smock, Madi Frieden and Riley King each doubled for Mercer County.

PREP BASEBALL

UNITED 11, ILLINI WEST 3: Monmouth United scored four runs in the first half-inning and never trailed at Carthage, Illinois.

Elliott Copeland had three of United's 10 hits. Red Storm pitcher Jon Smith pitched all seven innings for the win, He gave up three earned runs on eight hits and no walks. He struck out seven.

Illini West got home runs from Ethan James and Bradyn Robertson. Shawn Watkins Jr. doubled.

BOYS GOLF

PANTHERS TAKE FOURTH: Mount Pleasant finished fourth in the eight-team Fairfield Invitational.

Fairfield won with 322 strokes and was followed by Albia (328), Washington (335), Mount Pleasant (344), Van Buren County (366), Keokuk (381), Centerville (389) and Fairfield JV (410).

Washington's Roman Roth was medalist with a 4-over par 74.

Nick Matheney led Mount Pleasant with a 77. Other Panthers: Reece Kempker (81), Nate Dismang (93), Ian Hake (93), Reece Coffman (95) and Ben Meader (126).

Van Buren County was led by Riley Bruckman's 84. Other Warriors: Luke McEntee (88), T.J. Jirak (90), Dylan Richardson (104)(, Aidan McEnteen(107) and Eli Padget (120).

Jordan Sisk paced Keokuk with an 89. Other Chiefs: Nick Profeta (90), Bryor Lindner (101), Alex Capaldo (101), Brayden Picton (105) and Jaydan Thomas (109).

NEW LONDON 174, ND-WB 177: The Tigers edged Notre Dame-West Burlington in a dual at Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course.

ND-WB's Kaleb Allen was medalist with a 2-over 38. Other Nikes were: Carter West (44), Kyle Etka (46), Carsen Jones (49), Chase Richards (50) and Alex Ziegler (66).

Mason Shelledy led New London with a 40 and was followed by teammates Ethan Streeter (44), Wyatt Miller (45), Dawson Getz (45), Weston Miller (47) and Coen Fitzpatrick (54).

WAPELLO 191, LONE TREE 229: Cooper Garrison carded a 5-over 42 at Heritage Oaks golf course to lead Wapello to a dual meet victory.

Also playing for Wapello: Zach Harbison (45), Casey Short (51), Matt McGowan (53), Codder Malcolm (53) and Dawson Tipps (54).

Joe Boxwell led Lone Tree with a 51.

W-MU 190, HILLCREST 199: Carter Loyd was medalist with a 43 and he lead Winfield-Mount Union to a dual victory over Hillcrest Academy at Twin Lakes golf course.

Also playing for W-MU: Andrew Brown (44), Jake Edwards (47), Isaac Shurr (56), Sinjin Brown (59) and Griffin Humphrets (60).

Jace Rempel led Hillcrest Academy with a 45.

GIRLS GOLF

FULLER LEADS ARROWS: Liv Fuller shot a 50 at Heritage Oaks golf course to led Wapello, which topped Lone Tree by forfeit, The Lions didn't have enough players for a team score.

Also for Wapello: Dakota Griffin (52), Olyvia Malone (54), Libby Shafer (55) and Bryn Wiley (58).

KANN PACES W-MU: Isabel Kann carded a 54 to led Winfield-Mount Union to a dual victory at Twin Lakes golf course. The Wolves had a 246 team score; Hillcrest Academy didn't have enough players for a team score,

Also playing for W-MU: Alli Humphrets (59), Ava Hagge (65), Afton Wilkerson (67), Chloe Fisher (67) and Lily Freeman (71).

BOYS SOCCER

BURLINGTON 4, MOUNT PLEASANT 0: The Grayhounds blanked Mount Pleasant in a Southeast Conference game at Mount Pleasant's East Lake Park.

BHS goalkeeper Cayden Lowary picked up the shutout win with two saves.

Braden Schoene scored two goals for Burlington -- on on a penalty kick and one assisted by Brian Velazquez. Brennen Winke and Teriq Brown each scored a goal.

Burlington (7-3) hosts Fort Madison at Bracewell Stadium Thursday. Mount Pleasant 1-11) plays at Fairfield Friday.

ND-WB 10, HIGHLAND 0: The Notre Dame-West Burlington defense only allowed two shots on goal and goalkeeper Arya Nowroozi saved both of them.

The Nikes' Parker Davis led the offense with three goals and two assists. Cole Ward and Gabe Zurita each had two goals and Seena Nowroozi, Carson Wagner and Wyatt Pearson each scored a goal.

ND-WB improved to 9-3; Highland is 1-9.

FORT MADISON 13, KEOKUK 1: Leif Boeding and Nathan Bowen scored four goals each and Fort Madison routed the Chiefs at Keokuk's Calvert Stadium.

Reiburn Turnbull had two goals for Fort Madison. Henry Graham, Will Gager and Dayton Davis scored one goal each. Davis had five assists, Gager had four and Austin Miller and Oliver Santiago finished with three assists each. Boeding had two and Graham and Maddox Rung each had one assist. Goalkeepers Turnbull and Conner Gehling had no saves.

Fort Madison (9-3, 8-0) plays at Burlington Thursday.

COLUMBUS 7, WAPELLO 2: The Wildcats won a North Division match at Wapello.

Daniel Perez scored both of Wapello's goals on three shots on goal. Wapello's Kainoa Suemanutafa played 40 minutes in goal and had seven saves. Kaleb Grimm gave up seven goals and saved 12 in 40 minutes.

GIRLS SOCCER

BURLINGTON 3, MOUNT PLEASANT 2: Burlington edged the Panthers in a Southeast Conference match at Mount Pleasant's East Lake Park.

Elly Manning and Andrea Lopreato scored Mount Pleasant's goals. Manning assisted on Lopreato's goal. The Panthers' Evelyn Escobar had six saves.

Burlington (9-1) plays at Fort Madison Thursday. Mount Pleasant (6-4) plays at Fairfield Thursday.

FORT MADISON 4, KEOKUK 1: The Bloodhounds posted a Southeast Conference victory at Keokuk's Calvert Stadium.

Alana Simpson, Natalie Randolph, Taegan Denning and Teagan Snaadt each scored a goal for Fort Madison. Simpson, Olivia Kraus, Mary Kate Bendlage and Randolph each had an assist, Taylor Johnson had 11 saves.

Suzi Whitaker scored Keokuk's goal, assisted by Brianna Maerz. Ella Johnson had a second assist on it.

CENTRAL LEE 4, CANTON 1: The Lady Hawks posted a victory at Canton, Missouri.

Aubree Boyd, Macy Watkins, Ellie Lake and Kelsie Stewart each scored a goal for Central Lee. Boyd had two assists. Watkins and Lake each had an assist. Bailey Schwartz had three saves.

COLUMBUS/W-MU 3, WAPELLO 2: Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union edged the Arrows at Wapello.

Jacie Hoeg and Rachel Hoeg scored Wapello's goals. Tate Wolford assisted on both. Sarah McGowan had 13 saves and Claire Anderson added five.
