Mount Union men's basketball gets back to winning, 73-66 over Ohio Northern

ADA — Freshman Corey Hudson came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points and added a team-best four assists as Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated host Ohio Northern, 73-66, on Saturday.

Braedon Poole and Darrell Newsom added 16 and 10 points, respectively, for the No. 3-ranked Purple Raiders (17-2, 10-2 Ohio Athletic Conference), who bounced back from a two-point loss at No. 8 John Carroll on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears (9-10, 5-7) led 26-19 midway through the first half, but Mount Union responded with a 16-8 run, capped off by a 3-pointer by Chris Painter Jr. at the buzzer, to take a 34-33 lead at the break.

The Raiders gradually built their lead to double digits in the second half, the largest being 12 points (58-46) with 7:17 to go. ONU got as close as five points in the final minute.

No. 18 Ohio Northern shot .552 from the floor (32-of-58) to defeat the Mount Union women's team.

The Polar Bears (17-2, 11-1 OAC) were led by Jada Benjamin with 16 points, Abi Akamine with 13 and Brooke Allen with 12. Mackenzie Suprano added six points, six rebounds and five assists.

Dae Dae Nash had nine points and six rebounds to lead the Raiders (6-13, 3-9).
