Mount Union nets top honor for its education programs

ALLIANCE – University of Mount Union has received a top honor for its online master’s in education programs from U.S. News and World Report.

The program tied with University of Dayton’s education program for first place in Ohio.

Mount Union’s program was also ranked No. 5 overall for all online master’s in education programs in Ohio and moved up 56 spots in the national rankings, placing it in the top 22% of all online master’s in education programs nationwide. The University was also the highest-ranking Northeast Ohio institution.

“The M.Ed. program at the University of Mount Union was the first fully online program at the university and has grown exponentially since its inception,” said Dr. Mandy Capel, professor and director of graduate programs in Mount Union’s School of Education. “We pride ourselves in developing strong relationships with our students in an online, asynchronous environment that helps prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities.”

Mount Union’s online Master of Education degree offers four concentrations in athletic coaching, educational leadership, instructional design and technology and Ohio Principal’s Licensure. Successful alumni of the program have gone on to become athletic directors, principals, and leaders in the education technology space within two years of graduating.

“I was challenged on so many levels during Mount Union’s Master of Education program and feel that my experiences with the staff and the other students have given me direction in so many areas of this job I will encounter,” said Bill Johnson, athletic director of Tallmadge City Schools and alumnus of Mount Union’s athletic coaching concentration. “Quite simply, I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for Mount Union and this program.”

Mount Union has been ranked for 32 consecutive years by U.S. News and World Report for its undergraduate success, as well as being named third in Ohio for Best Value among regional universities for 2023.
