Mount Union volunteers assist with projects in Alliance

Volunteers gathered Saturday around Alliance taking part in delayed activities as a tribute to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. University of Mount Union’s Day of Service was postponed last week because of heavy snowfall throughout northern Ohio. Groups of volunteers, who included Mount Union students and community members, such as members of scouting organizations, took part in activities organized to help assist those in need. Among the projects was preparing gift bags of school supplies for children; carryall bags with personal care products for women; and pet supply bags for the Humane Society. Volunteers also helped out with boxing and bagging food, and helping with a cleanup at Alliance Community Pantry. Abby Schroeder, director of the Regula Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement at Mount Union, said 338 volunteers were expected to take part in activities Saturday, and that another four projects were rescheduled for a later date.
