A vice president at University of Mount Union has accepted a position as a vice president at Gwynedd Mercy University in Pennsylvania.

Jeffrey R. Breese, currently serving as founding provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Mount Union, will assume his new post on May 22.

Breese has nearly 30 years of experience in higher education. At Mount Union, he previously served as vice president of academic affairs and dean of the university, and was a professor of sociology. Before Mount Union, Breese served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and a tenured professor of sociology at Dominican University in Illinois.

He also has served at a number of other institutions across the nation, including Manchester University, Rockhurst University, Marymount University, University of Tampa and Saint Mary’s College.

“The Gwynedd Mercy University community is delighted to welcome such an accomplished and innovative leader to our team at this particular time in our history,” said Gwynedd Mercy University President Deanne H. D’Emilio, JD. “Jeff will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the University as we approach our 75th Anniversary and move forward in achieving our vision of becoming the Catholic University leader in professional and healthcare education.”

Breese will take over from Mary Sortino, who has been serving in the role on an interim basis.

Since starting at Mount Union in 2017, Breese has been involved in several campus initiatives, including the development and implementation of a new academic structure and the development and launch of a new Center for Faculty Development.
