Mount Union's Alyssa Rose named OAC softball player of the year

Alyssa Rose was named Player of the Year and Grace Heath joined her on the Ohio Athletic Conference first team for softball.

Rose, a senior from Madison, batted .362 and led the conference in home runs (8) and RBIs (43). She also led Mount Union with 14 doubles and was second with four triples.

As a pitcher, Rose recorded a 9-3 record with 85 strikeouts and 2.36 ERA.

Heath, a junior from West Branch, led Mount Union in batting with a .428 average, which was second in the OAC. She led the conference with 10 triples and 43 stolen bases. Heath also finished with 10 doubles, three homers and 22 RBIs.

Seniors Isabella Sherban (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Payton Guspyt (Indian Valley) were selected to the OAC second team, while senior Peyton Morrison (GlenOak) was named honorable mention.

Guspyt batted .355 with 13 doubles, two triples and 24 RBIs. Sherban batted .289 with two doubles, two triples, a home run and nine RBIs. Morrison had a 9-4 record with a 2.81 ERA and 70 strikeouts.

Seven Purple Raiders named to women's lacrosse team

Mount Union's women's lacrosse team had three first team selections and seven overall on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Sophomore Katie Clark (Walsh Jesuit), senior Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) and junior Leah Shutts (Amherst, N.Y.) were named to the first team.

Clark led the team and was second in the conference with 44 assists. She led Mount Union with 85 points and was third with 41 goals. This was her second consecutive season named to the first team.

Bumbarger led the Raiders and was fifth in the OAC with 65 goals. Bumbarger will leave Mount Union as the school's career goal leader with 213 goals and a two-time first-team selection.

Shutts led a Raider defense that held opponents to the second-fewest goals per game in the conference. Shutts led Mount Union and was third in the OAC with 32 caused turnovers and led the Raiders with 43 ground balls.

Junior Sam Karr (Newark, Del.) was an All-OAC second team selection, while seniors Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) and Delaney Allan (Olmsted Falls) and sophomore Eden Kesler (Kenston) were honorable mention selections.

Mount Union men's lacrosse lands four on all-conference team

Four Mount Union men's lacrosse players have been named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Senior Alek Kungle (Lake) was selected to the second team, while juniors Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa.) and Kyle Reihner (Scranton, Pa.) and freshman Connor Addison (Mishawaka, Ind.) were named honorable mention.

Kungle led Mount Union with 39 goals and 48 points. Gebhart led the Purple Raiders with 18 assists and was third with 22 goals. Reihner set a school record with 247 saves this season, which was second in the OAC. Addison was second on the team wth 11 assists.
