Sep. 22—LA GRANDE — The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team is finding its groove, improving to No. 13 in the latest NAIA coaches' poll. The team was previously ranked No. 15 in the Week 2 poll.
The Mountaineers won three straight shutouts heading into the Week 3 poll, improving its record to 5-1-0.
A 1-0 shutout at home against No. 17 Westmont marked the biggest win of the year so far for Eastern. Senior midfielder Morgan Farrington scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute on a penalty kick.
Later in the week, the Mountaineers swept Warner Pacific and Multnomah in back-to-back contests in Portland. Eastern defeated Warner Pacific 2-0 on Sept. 17, followed by a 10-0 blowout over Multnomah the following day.
Eastern is the highest ranked team from the Cascade Collegiate Conference, with Oregon Tech coming in at No. 20.
Through the team's first six games, Eastern is 2-0-0 in conference play and tied with Oregon Tech at the top of the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
