From the Right: The mouse that trapped itself

One of America's greatest entertainment achievements has been Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse creation that grew from a simple cartoon character into two of America's largest and most successful theme parks.

For years Disney productions, be it in his movies or theme parks, were wholesome, kid-oriented and an unrivaled American entertainment icon. The love affair in Florida between Disney and the state came to an abrupt change of attitude as Disney's management abandoned their wholesome approach to insert itself into Florida politics, heavily criticizing Florida's new bill protecting our kids ages 5, 6, 7 and 8 from sexual indoctrination courses that are totally age-inappropriate. To say that Walt Disney would be totally embarrassed by today's Disney corporate decision to oppose the recent bill passed in the Florida legislature and signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis would be the understatement of the 21st Century.

Our family in both California and Florida will no longer attend the Disney parks. The Florida bill, protecting children as young as 5 from totally inappropriate sexual orientation, seems to be supported by the majority of Floridians. It has been commonly called the “Don't say Gay Bill,” which is an outright lie as that term is not mentioned in the bill. Polls show that most Americans favor the Florida Parental Rights In Education Act.

Sex is being weaponized throughout American society, and it has surfaced in Florida. I see no useful purpose in getting into sexual preferences, etc., with kindergarteners and first-, second- and third-graders. My mother’s brother was gay living in California. We knew this 80 years ago, and we loved him as much as the rest of my mother’s family. The extremes within the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities have forced a gutless NCAA to accept transgender athletes into women's sports. Had the Florida law failed, sooner or later all sexual aspects of American society would eventually be discussed in kindergarten through third grade. If you don't think so, you're underestimating the sexual zealots at work.

Disney has lost $50 billion in value since their war with Florida began. I don't know how you can screw up Disney, but if there is a will, there's a way. Why Disney chose to die on the hill of sexualizing 5-, 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds shows a major disconnect between Disney's corporate leadership and the average fan of Mickey. Perhaps this position of Disney is no different than pro-athletes not standing for our national anthem or praising China over America and ignoring the massive human rights abuses of China.

Apparently Disney has no idea as to when to quit being “woke.” Disney has eliminated “boys and girls” from all park greetings to promote inclusivity. You also will no longer hear “ladies and gentlemen.” What's next for mothers and fathers? I'm thinking that it won't be long before “Magic Kingdom” will not be inclusive enough. The renaming will likely be “The LGBTQ+ Kingdom.” The “L” stands for lesbian, the "B" for bisexual, the "T" for transgender and the "Q" is for queer or questioning. Disney has not, as yet, included "R" for Republican, "D" for Democrat — or "S" for socialist, "L" for libertarian, "C" for communist or "I" for independent. For maximum inclusiveness, Disney should become “The LGBTQ+RDSLCI Magic Kingdom.” “Handicapped parking lots” sounds a tad insensitive; a better choice would be “Mickey’s Sensitive Parking Domain.”

I'm not sure when Disney's management team got turned over to Goofy, but it has performed as expected. In today's “woke” world, we must go to extremes to show our sensitivity. No more “boys and girls,” no more “ladies and gentlemen.” These dastardly terms must be abandoned by Disney as they much prefer to oppose legislation in Florida that prohibits our schools sexualizing our kids at ages 5, 6, 7 and 8. Disney is now the mouse that trapped itself!
