Move “Forever Marilyn” to Museum Way park — where she should be

First off – how did the “Forever Marilyn” statue end up in the street as opposed to the new park area next to Museum Way? The original sell to the public was that she was going in the park. Who OK’d that move? No one has ever taken credit for that decision and many residents would like to know the answer.

That said,

1) Move the statue to the park. People can still take their photos. Her rear end will be out of view and no students being bussed to the art museum will be emotionally damaged.2) Close the street and make it a pedestrian walkway to and from businesses and the art museum.3) Use the art walkway as an area for other art with a limitation to height so as not to obscure the sight line from Palm Canyon Drive to the art museum.

Everyone compromises and everyone wins. How hard is it?

What would Marilyn think?

There has been a great deal of discussion about where Marilyn should be standing. I’m sure she would rather be sitting on a park bench. Has anyone heard any complaints from Marilyn?

What has President Joe Biden screwed up? Everything.

David Bruck (“Can we quit complaining about President Joe Biden, please?”, Dec. 6), writes to complain that too often columns describe the many wrong and misdirected policies produced by President Biden. In exasperation, he asks, “like, what?”

In response, I’d like to suggest everything.

But I’ll just give him a short list: The porous border. The economy. Inflation. The Afghanistan withdrawal. Energy costs. A woke and weakened military. Crime and homelessness in our cities. A growing national debt. A politicized DOJ/FBI. Not to mention the growing concerns about his family’s corruption and wealth accumulation. And let’s not overlook selecting Vice President Kamala Harris as an act of appeasement rather than credentials and quality.

I suggest Mr. Bruck investigate these issues and consider an oft-quoted statement by Biden's former supervisor, Barack Obama: "Don't underestimate Joe's ability to [mess] things up."

Choosing one map for redistricting Palm Desert is a mistake

I would like to thank the Palm Desert residents who submitted redistricted maps, took time to send comments before the city council meeting and who spoke at the meeting. With that said, it was quite a shock when the original schedule Nov. 16 was to select two or three maps came to a screeching halt when Jan Harnik made a motion to go forward with one map, Map 109. The motion passed, 4-1. (Before this, Mayor Pro Tem Karina Quintanilla made a motion to submit two maps to review, but no one on the council seconded it.)

Why was all this time taken to tell Palm Desert residents that their input is needed and valued? I left extremely disappointed.

Knowing that the mayor and three council members were against moving to five districts after voters approved it, I should not be surprised by what they chose to do.
