It’s move-in week for Penn State. Here’s what you should know, from road closures to parking

Classes for Penn State’s fall semester are just a week away, which can only mean one thing in Happy Valley.

It’s move-in week.

Most on-campus arrivals will occur between Friday and Sunday, meaning more traffic congestion around State College during that time. But on-campus arrivals for certain groups — such as the Blue Band — began as early as Monday, and off-campus move-ins picked up a few days ago.

Here’s what you should know:

Road closures & changes

Temporary traffic pattern on Calder Way — now until Sunday — Remains one-way (westbound) from Hetzel Street to Garner Street and one-way (eastbound) from Hetzel Street to High Street. The traffic pattern began last Friday.

Burrowes Road southbound on campus — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday — Between Curtin Road and Pollock Road, Burrowes will allow only southbound traffic, to accommodate student arrival.

Partial left lane closure of the 400 block of West College Avenue — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday — Will occur for The Metropolitan’s residential move-in.

Partial right lane closure in the 600 block of East College Avenue and High Street — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday — Will occur between Wilson Alley and East College Avenue for The Meridian.

Partial left lane closure of the 300 block of West College Avenue — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday-Sunday — Will occur for The Standard’s residential move-in.

Temporary traffic pattern on H Alley — 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday-Saturday — Will be one-way, from West Calder Way to West Beaver Avenue, to allow for student move-in to The Graduate.

Partial closure of Hiester Street and Calder Way — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday-Saturday — Any partial closures will only occur on the portion of the streets that border The Maxxen. State College Borough Council still technically needs to approve this closure at Monday night’s meeting, but it’s expected to do so.

Campus parking changes

Student parking lot closures — from now through Sunday night — All core student resident parking lots will be reserved for 30-minute unloading, so permit holders must move their vehicles to Jordan East or Stadium West during the move-in period. Permit holders can move back to their assigned area starting 6 p.m. Sunday and must be parked in their assigned lot by midnight Sunday. The impacted student parking lots include Lot 22 at Eastview Terrace, Lot 42 at Nittany Apartments, Lot 81 at South/Pollock Halls and Lot 82 at east Halls.

Faculty/staff parking lot closures — from now through Sunday — Because these lots will be reserved for student arrival, the following permit holders must park elsewhere through Sunday. (All can park at Jordan East or Stadium West, and certain permit holders can also park at more locations.) Brown E, Green C, Green N, Yellow J and Yellow T can also move to Eisenhower Deck; Orange B (Softball) can move to other Orange lots (except Orange A Katz); and Yellow H (IM Building) can park at other Yellow H lots.

East Deck/Tener Lot permit holders (Yellow D) — from now through Sunday — Level 1 of the East Deck will be reserved for student arrival unloading only, and the Yellow D surface lot at Tener is closed. Hourly visitor parking at East Deck will be limited, and Yellow D permit holders should park at Jordan East or Stadium West.

HUB Deck (Yellow C) — from now through Sunday — Sections of the HUB Deck below the plaza level entrance will be reserved for student arrival unloading only. (Hourly visitor parking will be limited.) If the deck reaches capacity, Yellow C permit holders can also park at Eisenhower Deck, Jordan East or Stadium West.
