MoviePass has relaunched ahead of Memorial Day weekend. Here are the theaters in Wisconsin participating.

MoviePass, which will allow movie lovers a subscription-based way of attending local theaters, is giving it another try.

The service that started in 2011 before going into bankruptcy, relaunched in 2022 around Labor Day for a beta period last year in select markets.

Now MoviePass' new version is expanding to every state, including all across Wisconsin, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

Here are a few things to know about MoviePass.

What is MoviePass?

MoviePass is a theater subscription service that lets you watch movies at a set price.

How does the MoviePass credit system work?

There are four tiers of a subscription in which you pay an upfront price and get a monthly credit. You use those credits to watch movies. The higher the tier the more movies you'll be able to watch. It "costs" more credits to watch movies at different times and days.

For example, movies take fewer credits on Tuesdays and during weekday matinees, but weekend evenings and opening weekend showings total more credits.

How much is a MoviePass subscription?

Basic: You pay an upfront of $10 per month. This tier gives you 34 credits per month and allows you to watch between 1-3 movies per month.

Standard: $20 per month. This tier gives you 72 credits per month and allows you to watch 3-7 movies per month.

Premium: $30 per month. This tier gives you 113 credits per month and allows you to watch 5-11 movies per month.

Pro: $40 per month. This tier gives you 640 credits per month and allows you to watch up to 30 movies per month.

If I don't use all my credits in one month do they continue to roll over?

Sort of. Credits roll over but you can only keep up to two months of unused credits in your account at any time. That means if you have a basic account you can only have 68 total credits in your account.

What theaters are participating in MoviePass in Wisconsin?

There are 110 theaters across the state that allow you to watch movies with a MoviePass card, including all of the Marcus Theaters and AMC theaters.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes. If you realize you're not getting the most out of a premium or pro account you can go to a lower-tiered plan. Or if you need more credits to watch more movies in a month you can increase to a higher-tiered plan.

How many theaters are using MoviePass?

MoviePass' website says over 4,000 theaters are using it, making it America's largest theater network.

How can I get started using MoviePass?

First, download the app, choose the plan and then you’ll get a MoviePass debit card. The debit card serves as your ticket.
