Movies, music and more: Here's what to expect from Memphis stars in 2022

It's no secret that Memphis is a hotbed for talent. Some of the biggest names in music, television, sports and film have ties to the Bluff City and continue to put Memphis on the map.

Here is what a few Memphis-connected stars have in the works in the upcoming year.

Three 6 Mafia

Three 6 Mafia will be among the Beale Street Music Festival headliners. The 2022 festival is April 29 to May 1 at Liberty Park. Tickets to the three-day festival can be found here.

The horrorcore Memphis rap legends recently made headlines in their Verzuz battle against Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who was born in Memphis and raised in Olive Branch, returns to JTG Daugherty Racing in the No. 47 Chevrolet for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. He'll be the sole driver for JTG Daugherty.

The season starts Feb. 6 with the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Moneybagg Yo

In April, Moneybagg Yo released his Billboard chart-topping album, "A Gangsta's Pain" and began touring in support of the record. The shows will continue in 2022.

The Collective Music Group signee will perform at MLK Freedom Fest in March in Nashville. The following month, he will also perform Beale Street Music Festival as part of a lineup that includes Three 6 Mafia, Foo Fighters, Lil Wayne, Smashing Pumpkins, DaBaby, Sarkodie, Dirty Honey and more.

BlocBoy JB

While no official plans have been announced, BlocBoy JB tweeted that he'll have the "biggest comeback of 21-22."

The Memphis rapper was nearly inescapable in 2018 with his viral "Shoot" dance and song and as a featured artist on songs with Drake and 21 Savage.

Cory Branan

Singer-songwriter Cory Branan is hitting the road in early 2022. There's not a Memphis stop on his tour, but he will be visiting a few nearby states. Tickets can be found here.

NLE Choppa

NLE Choppa's second studio album, "Me vs. Me," is expected to drop on Jan. 14. No tour for the album has been announced yet, but he has a few international shows scheduled in The Netherlands, Poland and Bulgaria. Tickets can be found here.

Morgan Freeman

Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman will appear in the film "Hate to See You Go" as Sonny Bell, an aging Chicago blues musician who refuses to retire. Alongside Freeman, Trevor Jackson, Common and Bill Burr will also star in the film, Deadline reports.

Olivia Holt

Former Disney star Olivia Holt will return in her role as Kate Wallis for the second season of "Cruel Summer," the hit teen thriller on Freeform. An official release date for season 2 hasn't been announced yet.

Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale will play a young botanist who relocates to a small desert town and is kidnapped by an inexperienced drug mule after his plane crashes in the desert in the film "Borrego." The film will be in theaters and on-demand on Jan. 14.

K. Michelle

R&B singer and "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" star K. Michelle will host a new reality show on Lifetime, "My Killer Body with K. Michelle." After sharing the story of her own plastic surgery mishap earlier this year, the singer will chronicle the lives of five people who have had negative experiences with plastic surgery. The show is slated to air in January, according to a statement shared on her Instagram.

In addition, she is expected to perform in Milwaukee, Houston and Chicago with singer Avant in February and March.

Julien Baker

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Julien Baker will tour Europe in April and May. Baker is one-third of supergroup boygenius, alongside Grammy-nominated artist Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. Baker released her EP, "Little Oblivions (Remixes)" in 2021. Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin, who voiced Judy Hopps in Disney's 2017 animated film "Zootopia," will star alongside Maggie Q, Eliza Coupe and Olivia DeLaurentis in the FOX TV show, "Pivoting." Set in Long Island, New York, the show follows three childhood best friends as they cope with the death of the fourth member of their friend group. When faced with the reality that life is short, they alter their current paths by way of a series of impulsive decisions. The show premieres Jan. 9.
