New movies and TV shows filmed in NC in 2023 and when you can see them
North Carolina has been the backdrop for several major television shows and movies over the years, including multiple that came out recently. This year, even more are carrying the “Hollywood magic” from the Carolinas to the big screen.
From a sci-fi thriller and spinoff to comedies and a Hallmark holiday romance, there are plenty of shows and movies coming out with ties to the Tar Heel State. Grab the popcorn. Here’s a list of some of productions that were filmed in North Carolina this year, according to the North Carolina Film Office website, and how to watch them when they’re released:
“A Biltmore Christmas”
Filming location: Western NC region
Starring: Bethany Joy Lenz, Jonathan Frakes, Kristoffer Polaha
Synopsis: “It follows Lucy as she’s hired to write the script for a remake of a holiday movie. She joins a tour of the grounds and when she knocks an hourglass over, she finds herself transported back in time to 1946.”
How to watch: A Biltmore Christmas will premiere on Hallmark channel on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. CT.

“Blue Ridge”
Filming location: Charlotte region
Starring: Johnathan Schaech, Sarah Lancaster, Taegan Burns
Synopsis: “Follows new sheriff ex-Green Beret Justin Wise as he and his two deputies start investigating a murder in a town at the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains.”

“Operation Taco Gary’s”
Filming location: Charlotte region
Starring: Tony Cavalero, Brenda Song, Dustin Milligan
Synopsis: “Two brothers embark on a cross country road trip that quickly devolves when they become involved in a global conspiracy.”

“Renner”
Filming location: Eastern NC region
Starring: Frankie Muniz, Taylor Gray, Violett Beane
Synopsis: “Renner, a computer genius, is looking to find love with the help of an AI he develops named Salenus. At first, the AI helps him build confidence and navigate relationships, only to realize, a bit too late, he accidentally programmed his manipulative mother into it.”

“Summer Camp”
Filming location: Western NC region
Starring: Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton, Beverly D’Angelo
Synopsis: “Follows Nora, Ginny, and Mary, three childhood best friends who used to spend every summer at a sleep away camp together. After years, when the opportunity to get back together for a summer camp reunion presents itself, they all seize it.”

“Zoey 102”
Filming location: Wilmington region
Starring: Jamie Lynn Spears, Sean Flynn, Erin Sanders
Synopsis: “Now in her twenties, Zoey Brooks is still trying to figure out life and love. When Quinn and Logan announce they’re getting married, the PCA gang returns to Malibu for an over-the-top wedding that turns into a high school reunion for the books.”
How to watch: Zoey 102, which was released on July 27, can be streamed online on Paramount+.
