Mozambique mac, spaghetti and chourico: Local dishes to try for National Pasta Day

When we think of comfort food, one of the first things that comes to mind is pasta.

It’s such a favorite in fact, that it gets its own day:

National Pasta Day is Oct. 17.

Did we say day?

Pasta all gets an entire month, all to itself.

That’s right: October is National Pasta Month.

You can find it on the menu at just about any restaurant, and everyone has their own preferred shape, or recipe, and even variations on sauces and accompaniments.

To help celebrate National Pasta Day, we rounded up a few places from around Greater Fall River, where you can find classic pasta comforts, or pasta recipes with a twist.

This list is by no means exhaustive; the nice thing about pasta is that it’s just about everywhere, and it’s invariably good.

How about a pasta appetizer? The crawfish fried ravioli are golden-fried and served in a roasted pepper cream sauce, topped with two jumbo shrimp.

The pistachio chicken is fried chicken breast, coated in panko and ground pistachios, tossed with egg noodles, sun-dried tomatoes, onions, garlic, and spinach, in a creamy lemon white wine sauce.

Italian food meets Portuguese: try the spaghetti with chouriço. If you’re sticking with Italian, the Tortellini Venicia comes with tri-colored cheese tortellini, sauteed with sliced chicken breast, mushrooms, and roasted red peppers, in a creamy garlic parmesan sauce.

The bucatini comes with roasted cauliflower, pine nuts, garlic, anchovy, olive, capers, and Piave cheese. Piave cheese is named for the Piave River in Italy and is a cow’s milk cheese that develops an intense, full-body flavor as it ages.

Beloved by customers, the homemade mac and cheese comes in lots of flavorful combinations. The mac and cheese is made with seven different kinds of cheese and topped with bread crumbs. Choose from: plain (classic!); bacon cheeseburger; shrimp Mozambique; Buffalo chicken; lobster; hot dog; or chouriço and chip.

Mozambique is catching on as a delicious addition to pasta. At Four Corners Grille, their Four Corners Mozambique pasta comes with their Mozambique sauce, tossed with hot pepper rings, and your choice of pasta. You can also add chicken or shrimp for an additional charge.
