Women's Caucus launches formula finder website

Maryland's Women's Legislative Caucus has partnered with two recent high-school grads to create the DMV formula tracker at https://wcformula.com.

Wheaton High School alum Matthew Nanas and Clarksburg High School alum Adam Lederer created the tracker for the caucus as a way to address the national baby formula shortage that is impacting the state.

According to a caucus news release, "the infant formula shortage, due in part to the Abbott Formula recall, has affected participants in the Women, Infant and Children Program (also known as WIC), who are disproportionately women of color."

"We encourage Marylanders who see formula when they are out shopping, to use the website to upload info," said Del. Lesley Lopez, D-Montgomery, and president of the Women’s Legislative Caucus. "The whole process should take about 15 seconds. You don’t have to be a parent to use the website, but parents across the state will thank you."

Congressional candidate endorsed by conservative group

FreedomWorks for America, a political organization founded in 1984, announced on May 31 its endorsement of Del. Neil Parrott, R-Washington, in his bid for U.S. representative in the 6th Congressional District race.

According to its website, "FreedomWorks exists to build, educate, and mobilize the largest network of activists advocating the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, free markets, personal liberty and the rule of law."

“For years, Democrats have tried their hardest to make Maryland an uncompetitive paradise for liberals seeking higher office,” said Noah Wall, executive director for FreedomWorks for America, in a news release. “Now, with the recently redrawn congressional map, Republicans have a chance to even the score and ensure that conservatives are represented in the Old Line State."

“I am honored to receive FreedomWorks for America’s endorsement," said Parrott in the news release. "I continually work for lower taxes, less government, and diligently work for you to secure and maintain our freedoms."

Dem Central Committee reaches out to Asian American voters

The Washington County Democratic Central Committee announced the launch of an Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Voter Outreach and Engagement initiative — headed by committee member Angela Yamashita — on June 1.

In a news release, the committee stated, "We believe that AANHPI people, businesses, and communities have equal rights to thrive and prosper. As anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination continue to rise around our country, it is imperative that AANHPI voices are heard and values are represented at every level of our government."

The committee added that it's ready to work with the AANHPI voters and "arm them with the information and resources to have their voices heard through their votes."
