CEDAR GROVE — He was 18 feet tall, had a safety cone nose, a trash can hat, his name was Mr. Frosty and he raised around $7,200 for Children's Wisconsin when he melted away. He hopes to see you again next year.

According to creator Jon Voskuil, of Cedar Grove, Mr. Frosty met his maker when he melted away on March 1.

"Surprisingly, we had four people who guessed that correctly," Voskuil quipped regarding people who guessed Mr. Frosty's correct melt date. "All four had placed their guesses between Jan. 23 and 25, 2024, thus they were early guesses."

The only sign on the Voskuil front yard is a muddy puddle were the giant of good cheer once stood.

Jon Voskuil teamed up with Nate Altheimer, Michael Voskuil, Trevor Peterson and Matt Posthuma in January to create the towering snowman on his front yard at 1111 S. Second St. in Cedar Grove. In an earlier interview, Altheimer said, "We are complete amateurs, and we just decided to build a big snowman."

The builders said they enjoyed bringing out the joy of Mr. Frosty.

The team decided to contact Children's Wisconsin to use Mr. Frosty's eventual demise to help raise funds for the non-profit organization. After donating $10 to Children's, donors were asked to guess the date when Mr. Frosty would melt away into a memory.

People from around the United States participated in the contest and donated around $7,200 to Children's Wisconsin, according to Voskuil.

People from Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin donated for the cause, along with placing their guess. The first-place winner, whose name was not revealed by Voskuil, was from Maine. By the end of the contest, Mr. Frosty was just a very small amount of snow mixed with mud.

The muddy rubble remains of Mr. Frosty in the front yard of Jon Voskuil’s home as seen Thursday, February 29, 2024, in Cedar Grove, Wis. Warmer winter weather eliminated the formerly 18-foot tall snowman. His melting is raising funds for Children’s Wisconsin. People who donate $10 to the non-profit are then are eligible for a prize should they pick the exact day Mr. Frosty melts away.

Voskuil said he would be interested in doing the same contest again next year if conditions are right. He said if there is enough snow, they will create a bigger snowman for next year.

The return of Mr. Frosty would no doubt bring a smile to people of all ages.
