Mr. Jingles’s Story Line Is Far from Over on ‘American Horror Story: 1984’ & Here’s Why

Last night’s episode of American Horror Story: 1984 left me with several questions. One of the most important is what will happen to The Night Stalker (Zach Villa) and Mr. Jingles (John Carroll Lynch) now that they’ve stolen a cop car and fled to Los Angeles?
While it might seem like they’re in the clear, I’m starting to think there’s more to Mr. Jingles’s story line. Why? Because series creator Ryan Murphy never creates a character without a major purpose, and that hasn’t happened (at least not yet).
Here’s what you need to know: In last week’s episode of AHS: 1984, Margaret (Leslie Grossman) dropped a bombshell and revealed that Mr. Jingles didn’t kill the campers back in the ’70s—she did.
You see, Mr. Jingles was an employee and supposed to protect Margaret from the other campers, who were bullying her. But he failed. So, Margaret killed her bunkmates and even cut off her own ear to frame it on Mr. Jingles, who underwent electroshock therapy, resulting in no memory of the “attack.”
Of course, Mr. Jingles isn’t innocent either. He pretty much killed Chef Bertie (Tara Karsian) and locked Xavier (Cody Fern) in the oven. Not to mention Ray’s (DeRon Horton) beheading. But the poor guy has been serving time for a crime he didn’t commit, so I wouldn’t necessarily blame him for seeking revenge on Camp Redwood.
Still, this leads me to believe that Mr. Jingles’s story line is far from over, despite the fact that he’s (apparently) living it up in California. I’m convinced that he’ll somehow find his way back to the group to save the day, since it’s the last thing I could have ever expected.
This could go one of two ways: First, Mr. Jingles could reunite with the counselors and act as a hero, rescuing someone—maybe Brooke (Emma Roberts)?—from her predicted fate (aka the slammer). Or Mr. Jingles could be the one who puts an end to Margaret’s madness, killing her once and for all.
Besides, everyone thought Mr. Jingles was evil from the start, so why not throw a curveball no one saw coming?
American Horror Story: 1984 returns to FX next Wednesday, October 23, at 10 p.m.
