On Monday, Feb. 27, Fremont greeted a new luxury salon, MRG Beauty Bar, at 1466 E. State St.

Owner Stacy Root and her team celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony with drawings for gift baskets filled with goodies and free services donated by each member of the MRG team.

The luxury salon offers amenities including hair styling, manicures and other nail services, spray tans, facials, professional teeth whitening, massage therapy and ionic relaxing foot cleanse. Root announced an expansion into pedicure services and is looking for a makeup artist and lash tech.

Root credits her inspiration to start MRG Beauty Bar to her grandmother, Dolores Hines, whose weekly trips to the hair salon helped foster's her granddaughter's love of the beauty industry.

Root has eyed having a business for years

"I've always known that I wanted to have my own business, but I wasn't sure exactly what kind of business. I really wanted to get involved in the beauty industry," Root said. "As a kid growing up, I spent a lot of time in the beauty salon with my grandmother, and I always just loved the vibe of the beauty salon and how it made me feel and how it made everybody else feel…"

"It's important to me to create a salon that is warm, welcoming, and has a peaceful environment."

Root said, "I want to leave a legacy for my children. My one daughter, Gracie, she's very involved with the community theater." The salon owner said her daughter has taken "a liking to the beauty industry, theater makeup, and hair, and… talks about wanting to go to cosmetology school."

Root created the salon partly for her family to help fund her children’s college.

She said the salon's name consists of the first letters of her three children's names.

“Hopefully when I retire, I’m going to gift the business over to them,” she said.

It’s why she contributes her family to her success not just in MRG Beauty Bar, but in life by having a solid support system in her family. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, her daughter Mila, age 8, said, “I’m really happy my mom made this business with our family supporting her and I’m really happy that she opened this business with all her hard work.”

Root said being a businesswoman and an inspiration to her daughters and others in the community "can be overwhelming at times."

Community members have seen Root as an inspiration

"It's also a very good, positive feeling. When people from the community have reached out and told me how much of an inspiration I am, it makes me feel good, because I want to help others. That's definitely part of my mission as well, is giving back to the community and helping others as well… if they want to start a business, to give them the advice on what to do and how to go about it."

Root said young entrepreneurs should “eliminate distractions, stay focused on your goals, and write a list of your plans and see them through one by one.

"And really keep things to yourself until you're ready, truly ready, to share what your goals are and what you have achieved… This will help eliminate outside noise and focus on your goals."

Offerings include ionic foot cleansers, spray tans

Some of the few things that separate MRG from other salons are the services they provide including ionic foot cleansers and spray tans.

"I realized nobody was doing spray tanning here in Fremont," Root said. "It was really close to my heart to provide spray tanning, because I have a family member and a friend who was dealing with skin cancer. So, I thought it would be a great addition to the community to provide a safe tanning option."

Though Root has only been in the beauty industry for seven short months, she already considers MRG Beauty Bar a success because of its quick progress and the warm welcome from the Fremont community.

Root announced another ribbon-cutting ceremony in the works, MRG Beauty, Nails, and Spa will open next door as well.

“[The Fremont people] have taken a liking to my services, and now with the salon's soft opening two weeks ago, there’s been a flood of new clients coming through the door, and they seem to love the vibe of the salon and the atmosphere, so I’m feeling pretty successful already.”

Mindset of cooperation and team work

Root is coming into entrepreneurship with a unique mindset − one of cooperation and teamwork.

"I knew I wanted to create a salon that has affordable booth rent for professionals so that they can keep more of their income and thrive and build their businesses. … I consider the women in my salon my partners."

Another way she gives back is by offering a free ionic relaxing foot detox every quarter in honor of baby Blakely of Blakely Army, a cause near and dear to her heart. Enter a nomination of someone who needs to relax or take time for self-care. Submit nominees at: MRGbeautybar@gmail.com.
