MS BBall: Coldwater LMS splits with Western; Union City splits with Homer; St. Charles takes win

COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Legg Middle School girls basketball teams took to the courts Monday night to face off with Interstate 8 foe Parma Western. Coldwater recorded a split on the night, winning one game each in the seventh and eighth grade doubleheaders.

In the eighth grade “A” contest the LMS Cardinals fell to Parma Western by the score of 47-24.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Marie Powers who recorded a tough double-double, scoring 10 points to go along with 14 rebounds and two steals.

Also adding to the LMS effort was Paisley Harvey with four points; Brooklyn Closson with three points; TK Boyd with five points; Miyah Moore with four rebounds; Aubrey Gebbink with two steals; and Khloe Tawdful with two steals.

The LMS eighth grade “A” team is now 0-2 on the season.

In the eighth grade “B” game the LMS Cardinals fell to Parma Western by the score of 30-16.

Coldwater was led on the night by TaKyaa Hughes, Julianna Cowles, and Hannah Harris with four points each while Aivry Chavez and Kinley Brown added two points each.

In the seventh grade girls “A” game the Lady Cardinals defeated Parma Western in an exciting matchup, winning by the score of 33-29.

Leading the LMS seventh grade “A” effort was Audrina Bucklin with a key double-double, scoring a game high 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Bucklin also added five blocks in the victory.

Laynie VanAken also had a big game for the Cardinals, recording nine points and eight steals.

Also adding to the LMS seventh grade “A” effort was Vandria Bucklin with five points and Kendall Diamond with two points.

The seventh grade “A” team is now 2-1 on the season.

In the seventh grade “B” game the LMS Cardinals pulled out a exciting nail biter, defeating Parma Western by the score of 17-16 in overtime. Coldwater was led on the night by Madysen Combs with 13 points.

The LMS Lady Cardinal basketball teams will be back in action on Wednesday when they face off with Lumen Christi.

Union City Middle School opens 2022 season

HOMER, MI. — The Union City MS girls basketball teams kicked off their 2022 season Monday night with a trip to Homer.

In the seventh grade contest the Lady Chargers rolled, going on to defeat the Trojans 35-6.

Union City was led on the night by Nala Payne who had 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Aubrey Tennyson added four points in her middle school debut while Emme Eyre chipped in with four points, seven steals and six rebounds.

Also adding to the Union City effort was Elyse Flynn with four points, seven rebounds and one steal; Sydney Farnham with two points and six rebounds; Sydney Miller, Alaina Fry, and Emily Sander with two points each; while Jezelle Nagel added one point.

The Union City eighth grade team fell to Homer. Scores and stats were not reported.

The Union City MS girls basketball teams will be back in action with their home opener versus Jonesville on Wednesday.

St. Charles MS improves to 3-0 on the season

BRONSON, MI. — The St. Charles Borromeo Cougars faced off with Trinity Lutheran from Sturgis on Monday in a Sturgis Christian League contest. St. Charles came out on top, winning by the score of 32-11.

Leading St. Charles in scoring was Andrew Richards with 14 points, followed by Luke Aerts with eight points. Also adding to the Cougars effort was Matthew Waller with four points, Aryann Brooks with two points, Aiden Adams with two points, and Makenzi Rinard with two points.

The St. Charles Borromeo Cougars are now 3-0 on the year and will next see action Thursday when they take on Bronson St. Mary’s.
