COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Legg Middle School girls basketball teams earned a hard fought sweep over Jackson Northwest on Wednesday night for four key Interstate 8 conference wins.

In the eighth grade “A” game the Cardinals secured their first win of the 2023 season, defeating Northwest by the score of 24-15.

Leading the Coldwater effort was Paisley Harvey with five points and Savannah Hayward with four points. Marie Powers also had a big game, scoring four points to go along with 12 rebounds.

Also adding to the eighth grade “A” effort was Miyah Moore with four rebounds; Kline Tyler with three rebounds; Aubrey Gebbink with three steals; and Khloe Tawdul with three steals.

The eighth grade “A” team is now 1-3 on the season.

In the eighth grade “B” game the LMS Cardinals defeated Northwest by the score of 30-20, improving to 3-2 on the year.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Audra Hall with six points; Julianna Cowles with four points; Takyaa Hughes with four points; Aivry Chavez wth three points; and Hannah Harris, Kaylee King, Breanna Smith, and Kaeseyn Butler with two points.

In the seventh grade “A” game the LMS Cardinals defeated Northwest by the score of 27-21, improving to 3-1 on the season. Audrina Bucklin led the way for Coldwater with 19 points.

In the seventh grade “B” game the Cardinals rolled past Northwest for the 32-8 win.

Claire Stroup and Madison Combs led the way for Coldwater with 12 points each.

The seventh grade “B” team is now 2-2 on the season.

Union City 7th grade races past Homer

UNION CITY, MI. — The Union City 7th grade girls team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 38-6 win over the Homer Lady Trojans.

Union City raced out to an 8-0 lead over the first two and a half minutes of play, forcing a Homer timeout with 3:35 left in the first quarter.

The Chargers continued to run, going on to lead Homer 14-2 after one quarter, thanks to six points from Emme Eyre.

The scoring slowed down in the second quarter as it was Homer with the only bucket throughout the first half of the second period, closing to 14-4 with four minutes left.

Union City’s Nala Payne found her range however and dialed up long distance not once, but twice in the quarter, including a deep three at the buzzer, pushing the Charger lead to 22-6 at the half.

The young Chargers ramped up the defensive pressure coming out of the locker room, holding Homer scoreless throughout the entire second half of play. Union City went on to outscore Homer 11-0 in the third and 5-0 in the fourth to find the final score of 38-6.

Union City was led by Nala Payne with 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and three assists.

Also putting together big games for the Charger win was Emme Eyre with six points, eight rebounds and six steals; Sydney Farnham with six points and nine rebounds; Ellyse Flynn with three points, nine rebounds and three steals; Sydney Miller with two points, three rebounds and three steals; Emily Sander with four points and two rebounds; Alaina Fry with a stellar defensive effort; and Aubrey Tennyson with four points, two steals and two rebounds.

With the win the Union City 7th grade Chargers improve to 4-0 on the season and will next see action Friday when they travel to Pansophia Academy.

Quincy 7th grade takes Big 8 win over Concord

QUINCY, MI. — The Quincy 7th grade Lady Orioles improved to 2-1 on the season Wednesday night with a 35-15 win over the Concord Yellow Jackets.

Leading the way for Quincy was Julia Travelbee with 12 points while Taylor Lewis added 11 points. Also chipping in for the win was Josi Parker with six points and Elizabeth Longardner wth four points.

On the defensive side of the ball it was Parker and Paige Wineland with four rebounds each; Lewis, McKya Connin and Riley Myers with three rebounds each.

Bronson MS girls split with Reading

BRONSON, MI. — The Bronson MS girls basketball teams split with Reading Wednesday night in Big 8 play.

The eighth grade girls team defeated Reading 26-16 while the seventh grade team fell by the score of 28-4.

No individual stats were reported.
