COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Legg Middle School girls basketball teams faced off with Harper Creek on Monday night for a series of Interstate match ups.

In the eighth grade “A” game the LMS Cardinals fell to Harper Creek by the score of 44-23.

Leading the way for the Coldwater scoring was Paige Harvey with seven points and Brooklyn Closson with five points.

Pacing the team in rebounding was Marie Powers with seven rebounds; Aubrey Gebbink with four rebounds; Miyah Moore wth three rebounds; and Danika Harris with three rebounds.

Harvey and Ella Thompson led the team in steals with two each.

The eighth grade “A” team is now 0-3 on the season.

In the eighth grade “B” game the LMS Cardinals defeated Harper Creek by the score of 40-14.

Coldwater was led on the night by Juliana Cowles with 13 points, followed by Breanna Smith with nine points; Aivery Chavez with six points; Audra Hall with for points; and Kinley Brown, Kaesyn Butler, TaKyaa Hughes, and Hannah Harris with two points each.

The eighth grade “B” team is now 2-2 on the season.

Union City MS Girls sweeps Reading

READING, MI. — The Union City MS girls basketball teams went on the road Monday to take on Reading in Big 8 action.

The Chargers earned the hard fought sweep, with the seventh grade team rolling while the eighth grade team needed overtime and a clutch bucket to take the win.

In the seventh grade game the Chargers took the 25-15 win. Union City was up by nearly 20 at the half however Reading made a big run in the second half of play. The Chargers held on though for the win.

Leading the Union City effort was Nala Payne with 10 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Also adding to the Charger effort was Ellyse Flynn with four points, eight rebounds and three assists; Emme Eyre with six points, eight steals and four rebounds; Alaina Fry with two points and four rebounds; Sydney Miller with three points and three rebounds; Emily Sander with two rebounds; and Aubrey Tennyson with three rebounds and a steal.

With the win the Union City 7th grade team is now 3-0 on the season.

In the eighth grade game the Chargers and the Rangers went to overtime before Union City took the 17-15 win.

The score stood at 14-14 at the end of regulation, sending the game to an extra frame. After Reading took the lead with a single free throw Union City guard Kaylee Thomas dialed up long distance and hit a huge triple with just under a minute to go, giving the Chargers a 17-15 lead. Reading battled but could not find the equalizer as the Chargers secured their first win of the season behind a tough defensive effort, winning 17-15.

The Union City MS program will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Homer Trojans.
