MS Coast restaurants, a grocery store and gas station fail health inspections

Restaurants, a grocery store and a nursing home are among the five kitchens in South Mississippi cited by the health department for critical health violations in September.

The Mississippi State Department of Health inspectors this month gave 171 restaurants in South Mississippi an A for no violations and 22 a B when violations were corrected during the inspection.

The six that got a C grade on the Coast are:

Thorny Oyster, a full service restaurant at 104 North Beach Blvd., Bay St. Louis, had a scheduled inspection Sept. 21. It was cited for:

Required records not available for shell stock tags parasite destruction (a tag required from the harvester), a repeat offense

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Corrected during the inspection was: Food separated and protected

This is the third C this year.

Cosmos Cafe, 104 North Beach Blvd., Bay St. Louis, had a scheduled inspection Sept. 21.

It was cited for:

Hands not clean and properly washed

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Insects, rodents or animals present

Corrected during the inspection was: Proper date marking and disposition.

This is the first C dating back to 2021.

SSBA Enterprises, 119 W. Railroad St., Long Beach, had a scheduled inspection Sept. 18. The convenience store was cited for not having a certified manager.

Domino’s Pizza, 7100 Mississippi 63, Moss Point was inspected for a permit renewal Sept. 21. It was cited for not having a certified manager.

Piggly Wiggly grocery store, 530 West Central Ave., Wiggins, was inspected for a permit renewal Sept. 16. It was cited for:

Insects, rodents of animals present.

Corrected during the inspection were:

Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Proper hot holding temperatures

Proper cold holding temperatures

This is the third C dating back to 2012.

The Pillars nursing home, 2279 Atkinson Road, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection Sept. 20. It was cited for sewage waste water not properly disposed.
