MS Coast woman who tried to flee on a bus to Iowa ‘violently shook’ a 5-month-old baby

A woman who was arrested on a bus to Iowa was sentenced for child abuse of a five-month-old baby.

Rosa Robicheaux, 41, of Jackson County pleaded guilty June 2 and was sentenced by Judge Calvin Taylor to 40 years, with 25 years to serve, in state prison.

Gautier Police were called when the baby was taken to Singing River Hospital, suffering from multiple brain bleeds and skull fractures due to abusive head trauma caused by Robicheaux shaking the infant, according to a press release.

Robicheaux went to the hospital with the baby and his mother, but fled to Alabama. She was arrested days later by the Mobile Police Department while on a bus to Iowa.

“Rosa Robicheaux violently shook a helpless infant into a state of unconsciousness, verging on death,” said Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath. “By God’s grace this infant is alive and healthy,” she said. “Our children are our treasures and we remain committed to fight, to protect our children in and out of the courtroom. We appreciate the diligence of the law enforcement agencies involved in solving this crime and capturing Robicheaux before she fled.”

McIlrath and Justin Lovorn, assistant district attorney, represented the state in this case.
