Disney+ is bringing one of the most groundbreaking heroes in the Marvel Universe to TV (err, streaming).

The House of Mouse has announced during its Disney+ presentation at D23 on Friday (August 23) that it is working on a new episodic series featuring Ms Marvel.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige also confirmed that Disney+ will be the home to shows based around She-Hulk and Moon Knight. Plus, Ms Marvel's series will lead into her eventually appearing in the MCU movies.

There have been multiple versions of Ms Marvel over the decades – with Brie Larson's MCU hero Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) being the first to use the monicker back in the 1960s.

Disney+'s Ms Marvel series is based on Kamala Khan, who is the latest superhero to use the name. The character is also groundbreaking for being the first Muslim superhero to headline her own Marvel comic.

Inspired by Carol Danvers, Kamala becomes a superhero herself and eventually even joins the Avengers. As an Inhuman, her superpowers include shape-shifting and extra healing.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously hinted that he had major plans for Kamala Khan last year when the subject of adding her to the Marvel Cinematic Universe came up.

"Ms Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works," he explained.

"We have plans for that once we've introduced Captain Marvel to the world."

In the past, the Netflix Marvel shows and even Agents of SHIELD have referenced the movies without having characters crossing over.

For Disney+, Marvel is reverse-engineering by having several characters from the MCU films get their own spin-off shows — including Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch and The Vision, and Hawkeye.

Disney+ launches on November 12 in the US – but unfortunately there's no launch date yet in the UK.
