MSP nets $6 million in marijuana in grow operation bust

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police has seized an allegedly illegal marijuana grow operation in metro Detroit holding more than $6 million worth of product.

The agency’s Marijuana & Tobacco Investigation Section launched the secret investigation late last year and found that neither the facility nor the people operating it had the proper licensing. MSP executed a search warrant on Feb. 21 on the facility in Highland Park.

Troopers seized more than 4,000 marijuana plants, approximately 213 pounds of processed marijuana and 362 pounds of drying flowered stalks.

“At the current rate of $93 per ounce being sold in facilities licensed by the Cannabis Regulatory Agency, the value of this seizure is estimated to be $6.3 million,” MSP said in a social media post.

The agency did not say whether anyone was arrested alongside this bust or what potential criminal charges they could face.

The MSP Marijuana & Tobacco Investigation Section focuses on criminal law and tax violations of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act and the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.
