UPDATE: MSP trooper released from Shock Trauma after impaired driver hits cruiser on I-70

A Maryland State Police trooper assigned to the Hagerstown barrack was treated and released Saturday afternoon from a Baltimore hospital, several hours after his police cruiser was struck by a car on Interstate 70, according to state police.

Cpl. Kevin Mowers was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland by a state police medivac chopper after the crash that happened around 2:45 a.m., according to a state police news release.

Mowers was treated and released from the hospital around 3 p.m. Saturday, state police spokesperson Ron Snyder said. Mowers will be recuperating at home, Snyder said.

Chauncey Dale Baylor II, 30, of Hagerstown, was charged with impaired driving, the release states.

Mowers was traveling west on I-70, east of Md. 66, in his marked police vehicle around 2:45 a.m. when, according to the preliminary investigation, his vehicle was struck by a 2013 Chrysler 300 driven by Baylor, the release states.

Westbound I-70, prior to Md. 66, was closed temporarily for a crash reconstruction investigation.

State police continue to investigate the crash.

Baylor was taken to the Hagerstown barrack for processing before being released, according to state police.
