MSU buys two buildings for $48 million to create health complex

EAST LANSING — Michigan State University has spent $48 million to buy a two-building property with 210,000 square feet of space so that it can eventually have many of its health care services together.

The property is at the corner of Hagadorn Road and Hannah Boulevard, across from MSU's campus, according to a university statement.

The new MSU Health Care providers will offer family medicine, pediatrics and ambulatory surgery among other health services. It would eventually be the home for services currently offered at the MSU Clinical Center and Fee Hall, including family and internal medicine, endocrinology and psychiatry.

“This investment in property is showing the dedication of MSU Health Care to provide the best health care for the people of Michigan by making it easier to access health services,” said Seth Ciabotti, CEO for MSU Health Care, in the university statement. “Locating services often used together close to each other makes it easier for our health care workers to collaborate, ultimately leading to a better experience for patients.”

Some MSU Health Care services, including the recently-opened Heart and Vascular Center, are already on several floors of the Eyde Building.

The buildings are:

  • A two-story 60,000-square-foot building at 4700 Hagadorn Road; and

  • A six-story 150,000-square-foot building at 4660 Hagadorn Road known as the Eyde Building

The buildings have tenants whose leases will be honored but the last lease will end in 2027, according to a statement from the university.

The university's Board of Trustees approved the purchase in February and finalized the transaction in July, according to a statement from Michigan State University.
